Chapter 2, Pages 10-14

“What exactly is this?” Faith asked the young woman standing next to her in the British Museum.

“Something quite enigmatic. A Tablet from, perhaps, ancient Egypt. Its origin is mysterious. My name is Elena Kosnova, Oxford student in ancient languages. Resident of England. World traveler. Love this mysterious stuff.”

“Nice to meet you, Dr. Faith Roper, from America. Yes, it does look mysterious.” They shook hands. Briefly, Elena could feel Faith’s inner strength.

“The … The Hopi exhibit—”

“My father’s.”

“Fascinating objects. Unfamiliar to most of us in Europe. A very special message in those objects.”

“A message linked to world mythologies. If you learn one thing about ancient civilizations, you learn they’re all linked through time and events. No civilization can act in a vacuum, completely. Each feeds into another, and oracles and prophecies seem to be expressed in similar ways in each age.”

“Well, speaking of oracles, this Tablet is history’s alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. This Tablet is the sum of all oracular prophecies. Twelve to be exact, accumulated from a variety of seers, oracles, and priestesses throughout time, who have not only answered questions from supplicants, given advice, both private and public, but also have foretold the future of this world. The Twelve Oracle, the Tablet’s final oracle-prophecy is of the most concern because it may indicate the end of the world.”

“I see no writing.”

“That’s because the emerald is missing from that spot,” Elena said, pointing at the green Tablet and a hole—about one inch in diameter.

Elena was tall—five-foot nine inches—with stunning hazel eyes, a color that often shifted from brown to green. Her smile lit a room.

She exuded enthusiasm. She was all about making things happen. “You mean—”

“Yes. If the emerald is inserted in that spot, specific oracles can appear, at least that’s the mythology,” Elena said, walking close to the Tablet.

Faith gently touched the Tablet.

Writing shimmered visible—for two seconds!

“Did you see that?” Elena asked, stunned, her eyes opening wide.

“Barely.”

“That’s incredible! Touch the Tablet again.”

Faith reached out, but before she could touch the Emerald Tablet, it shimmered again.

Then she collapsed on the floor.

“Are you okay?”

“My baby. I need to go to the hospital.” Faith looked up at Elena, perspiring, her five-foot six-inch body feeling the full weight of her pregnancy.

“I believe I can help,” a tall man said with a caring smile, stepping forward from the shadows, wearing a simple gray top and pants combination.

“And you are?” Elena asked.

“Tabriz. I saw the woman fall. I sense time is crucial. My car is outside. We need to hurry.”

His lean body moved toward the exit, as if to say, Come, I can help. His rare gray eyes also spoke this message. He was calm.

Both Faith and Elena looked at each other, asking silently: Do we trust this stranger?

“You have the face of an honest man,” Faith said instinctively. “We accept your offer of help.”

Faith was in stress, but her state of being somehow calmed both Tabriz and Elena.

Tabriz’s heritage was from the past, explained by an ancient story that had been told and retold over hundreds of years:

The Magi have been entrusted with an assignment in eternity. We are to become the event witnesses of both time and history, the onlookers of wondrous and grave happenings, of births and deaths.”

“Can you see into the future, beloved Master?”

“Stay in the present, for the future is steeped in sorrow; however, an individual, one individual of pure heart, can restore earth’s balance and realign the heavens. Those are the ones you protect.”

He remembered what his teacher had said:

“The day will come, suddenly, when the dagger in the earth’s heart must be removed for the future to exist. Your  life becomes incidental when the hour of turning is near.”
